UNITED WE SERVE

“The president is calling on all Americans to participate in our nation’s recovery and renewal by serving in our communities. There are many ways to get involved.  America’s new foundation will be built one community at a time and it starts with YOU.”

PARK PLACE LOVES VOLUNTEERS

In giving your time as a volunteer, you can bring many things to our program.  Your skills, your knowledge, your ideas are a needed contribution – but the greatest contribution you can make is to give friendship, caring and love.  Our participants enjoy and appreciate your friendship and understanding – it is your greatest gift.

As a volunteer you need to be confidential with names and information, patient in any situation, sympathetic to individual needs and opinions, cheerful in speaking to people, calm in any occurrence, unreprimanding for mistakes made, and positive in giving instructions or commands.

Also, dependable in volunteering your time.

Another way to stay involved in your community is to help all the unpaid caregivers out there taking care of the growing elder population.  Your time would be very much appreciated helping your family, friends, and neighbors.

GOODBYE to 2011

When Park Place participants were asked to list some things they were happy to say goodbye to in 2011, here are some of the things they mentioned:

  • “Radiation treatments”
  • “Chemo”
  • “Fruitcake”
  • “adios to my youth, I’m 85 and counting”
  • “Goodbye to my clutter, I will get rid of stuff next year.”
  • “my bad teeth”
  • “My limp. I now use a cane.”

                            HELLO TO 2012

And now some things they are looking forward to, or words of wisdom from their parents -

  • “Hello, new dentures.”
  • “I got a new walker for Christmas.”
  • “Every birthday counts.”
  • “Life is coming, so just go with it.”
  • “Remember who you are and act accordingly.”
  • “I hope you have 18 children and they are all just like you.”
